Factors Influencing Biodiversity and Distributional Gradients in Mangroves

چکیده
Numerous factors affect the distribution of mangrove plants. Most mangrove species are typically dispersed by. water-buoyant propagules, allowing them to take advantage of estuarine, coastal and ocean currents both to replenish existing stands and to establish new ones. The direction they travel depends on sea currents and land barriers, but the dispersal distance depends on the time that propagules remain buoyant and viable. This is expected to differ for each species. Similarly, each species will also differ in establishment success and growth development rate, and each has tolerance limits and growth responses which are apparently unique. Such attributes are presumably responsible for the characteristic

Crab biodiversity under different management schemes of mangrove ecosystems
Reforestation is one of the Philippines’ government efforts to restore and rehabilitate degraded mangrove ecosystems. Although there is recovery of the ecosystem in terms of vegetation, the recovery of closely-linked faunal species in terms of community structure is still understudied. This research investigates the community structure of mangrove crabs under two different management schemes: p...
متن کاملFungal Diversity Marine fungi: some factors influencing biodiversity
This paper reviews some of the factors that affect fungal diversity in the marine milieu. Although total biodiversity is not affected by the available habitats, species composition is. For example, members of the Halosphaeriales commonly occur on submerged timber, while intertidal mangrove wood supports a wide range of Loculoascomycetes. The availability of substrata for colonization greatly af...
متن کاملDiversification rates increase with population size and resource concentration in an unstructured habitat.
Understanding the mechanisms controlling the generation and maintenance of biodiversity provides some of the planet's greatest and most pressing challenges. Variation in resource concentration, which varies widely at multiple scales, may cause biodiversity to increase, decrease, or exhibit a unimodal response and underlying mechanisms remain obscure. We established experimental cultures of long...
متن کاملInvestigation of long-term mangrove and saltmarsh area changes in the Iranian mangrove habitats (Case study: mangroves of Hormozgan province)
In general, investigation of changes occurred in the area of mangrove and saltmarshes indicates the balance between these two ecosystems and plays an important role in providing necessary solutions to maintain their ecosystem services. Hence, the aim of this study was to investigate the changes in the expanse of mangroves and saltmarshes in the mangrove habitats of Hormozgan province during a l...
متن کاملLarge-scale biodiversity patterns in freshwater phytoplankton.
Our planet shows striking gradients in the species richness of plants and animals, from high biodiversity in the tropics to low biodiversity in polar and high-mountain regions. Recently, similar patterns have been described for some groups of microorganisms, but the large-scale biogeographical distribution of freshwater phytoplankton diversity is still largely unknown. We examined the species d...
